William Stowman began his musical career growing up in the small
Western Pennsylvania town of Brockway. He graduated from high school
in 1981 and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he
earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and studied
trumpet with Dr. William Becker. Bill holds Master’s degrees in
Music education and Trumpet Performance from Eastern Kentucky
University where he studied with Dr. Kevin Eisensmith, and the Doctor
of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas. While at
North Texas, Bill studied with renowned trumpet pedagogue Keith
Johnson and John Holt, principal trumpet of the Dallas Opera. He
studied conducting with Eugene Corporon and has recorded several
compact discs with the North Texas Wind Symphony on the Klavier label.
Bill also records with the Keystone Winds, conducted by Pennsylvania
composer Jack Stamp. He has also performed with the Lexington
Philharmonic (KY), the San Angelo Symphony (TX) and the Garland
Symphony (TX).
Currently, Dr. Stowman is Chair of the Music Department and Director of Instrumental
Studies at Messiah College in Grantham, PA where he teaches trumpet and conducts
several ensembles including the Brass Choir, Trumpet Ensemble and Jazz Ensembles.
JazzONE has recently released "Swing Sweet Spirit" on the MarkCustom label.
He is a clinician with the Edwards Trumpets, a member of the Collegiate
Band Directors National Association and the International Trumpet Guild.
He serves on the Board of Directors for the National Trumpet Competition and the Central
Pennslyvania Friends of Jazz. Bill resides in Mechanicsburg, PA with his wife Lynn, and their
four children.
